Art Rotterdam 2025: Find us at Booth G02

This year at ART Rotterdam, we are excited to present new works by the following artists: Matthias Schaareman, Steffen Kern, Christian Hellmich, Thijs Jansen and Dirk Hardy. Each artist brings a unique perspective on daily life, exploring themes through diverse techniques that come together to create a compelling booth experience.

The forms in Matthias Schaareman’s (b. 1986) works always possess a certain abstraction. The origin and context from which these shapes are created are still visible, but the artist allows himself to build them up, polish them and break them down again in such a way as to give them a more autonomous form. Steffen Kern (b. 1988) uses pencil and charcoal to create striking works that play with light, shadow, and depth. His pieces, influenced by photography, tap into a collective visual memory. Christian Hellmich (b. 1977) revives Berlin's 'fringes' with a contemporary twist. His abstract, geometric compositions draw from a personal archive of photographs and other personal sources, exploring the city's edges and the imprint they live in our memory. Thijs Jansen's (b. 1986) figurative works are surreal and dream-like in their content and form. The artist approaches his paintings as a kind of diorama or stage - an imaginary space where he can direct and change details to evoke a mood or set an atmosphere. Dirk Hardy (b. 1989) creates intricate tableaux that blend personal memories, observations, and imagination. His work explores how storytelling fosters empathy, connecting viewers with different perspectives.
