PAN Amsterdam 2024: Find us at Booth 51
Rutger Brandt Gallery is excited to announce its participation in PAN Amsterdam 2024!
This year, our dynamic booth will showcase a diverse collection of artworks, ranging from captivating abstract paintings to meticulously detailed photorealistic drawings.
We are thrilled to present new pieces by Radenko Milak, Steffen Kern, Johannes Daniel,
Carlos Sagrera, Jan Kuhlemeier, and Emmanuel Barcilon.
Johannes Daniel is a German artist based in Leipzig who creates large-scale graphic paintings that depict fragmented human figures. He paints dreamy liquid worlds through fluid lines and pastel color that are contrasted with harsher graffiti and urban aesthetics. Daniel's artistic process involves collaging drawings, text, and photographs. He achieves a multi-layered effect through a unique interplay of painting and digital manipulation. Daniel’s work is influenced by his extensive archive of collected materials including lyrics, poems, magazines, fashion, photographs, and music videos . This diverse array of influences lends his work a contemporary and multifaceted feel, creating artworks that are rich in context and modern in their sensibility.
Dutch artist, Jan Kuhlemeier blends multiple layers of pigment on the canvas to explore the boundaries between painting and other media. He meticulously searches for specific hues and color nuances, using his unique technique to merge energy, motion, and color. This approach allows him to create vibrant landscapes inspired by the geographical places he has visited. Through his blending technique, Kuhlemeier blurs the line between painting and object, pushing the traditional limits of the art form.
At the heart of Carlos Sagrera’s work lies a profound exploration of memory. He draws inspiration from old family photographs and personal recollections, crafting evocative interior scenes that encapsulate an essence of nostalgia. His frozen interiors render a world where time stands still, evoking associations with the past and collective reminiscences. These scenes stir up feelings of familiarity and shared human experiences that resonate with the viewer, who are invited to recall on their own personal histories, making Sagrera’s art a poignant reflection on memory itself.
Radenko Milak currently lives and works in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His remarkable technique is displayed in his detailed black-and-white watercolor paintings. He creates intimate portrayals of urban spaces, often referencing current events and topics such as major world catastrophes, wars, and global environmental crises. His paintings are imbued with a certain stillness and ambiguity, offering a poignant depiction of humanity and modern life.
Emmanuel Barcilon's paintings are a mesmerizing interplay of color, texture and depth. At first glance, his works may appear deceptively simple—monochromatic planes that entice the eye. However, upon closer inspection, an enchanting array of color and texture emerge from beneath the surface, revealing a world of contrasting tones and translucent layers that draw viewers into the infinite depths of the painting.
Steffen Kern works with pencil and charcoal on paper in a meticulous method that elevates a conventional medium to a contemporary style. Creating works in both vivid color and black and white, the artist’s style is uniquely marked by luminous contrasts and a mastery of light and shadow. As if drawing in a dark room, Kern experiments with the visual elements of blooming, depth of field, distortion and shadow caused by direct light. The effect is powerful and striking, harkening back to old masters while simultaneously feeling markedly current.
