Biography
Jan Kuhlemeier (b. 1992) is a Dutch artist whose practice bridges painting and material exploration to question the boundaries between traditional art forms and contemporary media. Known for his translucent layers of color and precise gestures, Kuhlemeier crafts works that evoke the fluidity and dynamism of the natural world, drawing inspiration from his personal experiences within landscapes.

Kuhlemeier’s creative process involves a meticulous exploration of pigments and gel mediums, revealing the unique qualities of materials—whether smooth and dissolvable or textured and fragmentary. His art reflects his deep engagement with the interplay of color, movement, and light, often influenced by his passion for surfing and the fleeting reflections of water surfaces.

Since earning his BA in Fine Arts from ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem in 2015, Kuhlemeier has gained international recognition, including the prestigious Van Vlissingen Art Foundation Prize in 2023. This honor led to a transformative journey to Indonesia, inspiring new works exhibited at Museum Singer Laren.

Through his art, Kuhlemeier invites viewers to contemplate the ephemeral nature of their surroundings, blending energetic motions with a precise artistic vision that captures the beauty of transformation.
