Sebastian Hosu & Georg Brückmann: Creating realities

2 September - 1 October 2016
Overview

You are cordially invited to the opening of the exhibition Creating Realities with work by Sebastian Hosu and Georg Brückmann on Friday 2 September from 5:30 - 7:30 PM.

Brückmann and Hosu, two young artists from Leipzig, each create their own reality using different media. The photographer Georg Brückmann recreates (historical) spaces and iconic images from art history in his studio, which he captures by means of a photo. In the series that can be seen in the gallery, he has taken postcards of famous paintings and imitated them with everyday objects. In this way he lets us look at images from our collective memory differently. With his photos, Brückmann explores the boundaries of reality and fiction in photography.

28-year-old Romanian artist Sebastian Hosu creates paintings and drawings, inspired by old family photos. In the gallery we show recent charcoal drawings that Hosu puts on the paper in a powerful interplay of lines, virtuoso and direct. Despite the personal starting point, Hosu manages to give his work a universal character and gives the viewer the space for his own interpretation.
