Johan de Wit Solid Air
Johan De Wit is most known for his sculptures and videos His works evoke associations such as childhood memories, vanity and melancholy. The artist combines his love for aesthetic objects with everyday life ranging from a pot, a table or a ladder to abstract shapes. Art historical references of still life and landscape painting of the past inspire De Wit who seeks refined craftsmanship in his own work. This is reflected in his search for materiality, textures and color. A paper 3D-model forms the basis for each of his recent series of objects. After reinforcing it with resins, De Wit reworks the model during the drying process to create folds and dents, finishing up each piece with different colors and shades of paint.
