Natalia Ossef

The works of Natalia Ossef challenge our relationship with shared memories and (cultural) identity through visual deconstruction and abstraction. Both the medium and the resource become elusive as their original meaning changes within new visual contexts. The natural process of identification with photographic memorabilia is disturbed by the interjection of large black and white spaces and abstract shapes. In Ossef’s solemnly colored collages, fragments of documented memories gain a new sense of collective urgency within the loss of idiosyncrasy, delicately moving towards the essence of a more universally shared identity.
