Fabian Glass

Fabian Glass is a video artist, performance artist and makes sculptural objects. In his work he investigates human behavior and the impact it has on others. A world where man is dependent on objects that are in close relationship with him, he plays with the physical preconditions and characteristics of the object and the person at hand. They form the basis of humorous self-contained choreographies that examine the aesthetics of an immediate action, the reduction on one simple mechanism.

Fabian Glass: ‘As I see it, man lives in a world where he is dependent on objects and is always instructed to act within certain presets. He establishes close relationships with these items that surround him. These objects are varying. They are mechanical or electrical, hand-crafted or industrially-made, have simple or very complex functions. In any case they demand a distinct treatment and are mostly used for one definite task.

With those tools, deep seated in our everyday lives, we are connected in a utilitarian interdependency. I perceive it as a logical system, that expects certain actions of me, the user moving within it. These facts, the mechanics of the objects or the moment when man and object meet, I pick up in my work. The physical preconditions and characteristics of the protagonists (man as well as object) form the basis. They are my material for sculptural actions and performative objects, that in turn are parts of self contained choreographies.

Functionality and purpose play a minor role for that matter, instead it is more about the aesthetics of an immediate action, about the reduction on one simple mechanism. The beauty of an unaffected, headstrong movement alongside the plain surface of a system is what interests me’.
